Disney Enters the Senior Living Game

The first "Storyliving" residential community located in Rancho Mirage will feature 55+ neighborhoods catering to lifelong Disney fans.

Move over Margarataville, there’s a new 55+ community in town for older adults looking to take the vacation lifestyle home. The Walt Disney Company has announced the launch of Storyliving, residential communities all around the U.S. that will "cater to those looking to write the next chapter of their lives with Disney." Each location will include some neighborhoods for residents aged 55 or more years, Disney said. Home types will include condominiums, single family homes and what the company refers to as “estates.”

The first community, called Cotino, will be located in Rancho Mirage in California's Coachella Valley, a place that holds special significance as Walt Disney himself owned a home there, the company shared in a press release. A Disney spokesperson told CNN that Cotino will have about 1,900 residential units of varying types on the 618-acre property.

At Cotino, Disney said, a voluntary club membership will offer residents access to a waterfront clubhouse, a club-only beach area and recreational water activities, as well as Disney programming, entertainment and activities throughout the year. Cotino also is expected to include shopping, dining and entertainment, a beachfront hotel and a professionally managed beach park with recreational water activities that the public can access via a purchased day pass.

"For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world," Josh D'Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said in a statement. "As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to storyliving. We can't wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest.”

Each community will feature distinctively designed spaces, unique amenities and Disney’s brand of world-renowned service. Disney's Storyliving locations will also offer perks like wellness programming, live performances, cooking classes, seminars and more, all of which will be available through a club membership.
